artistic statement

For my final project in Integrating Activty, I’ve decided to create a short film. The reason I chose to make a film was because I’ve always loved my film classes. Through my semesters at Dawson, I’ve had a few film classes were I learnt about films and how to make them. I always really enjoyed those classes and thats what motivated me to make a film for my this project. The theme of the project was “creativity in crisis”, and I really focused on the theme in my film. My film is about an artist who is trying find an idea to paint on the three blank canvas behind her. She is struggling hard to find something and is having a creative crisis. She finally ends up getting an epiphany while emptying her garbage and fills the canvas with random paint. I wanted to portray the message that being an artist is not always easy and it is normal to have creative crises or to feel uninspired for sometime. You also don’t always need to make “perfect” art for you to enjoy. I really wanted to try and challenge myself with the editing and tried different editing techniques. I wanted my film to be visually interesting to watch. I decided to use music from “Aphex Twin”.  I really wanted a more experimental feeling to my film and I think that using music from this artist really helped portray that. An inspiration that I had while creating this film was Arthur Lipsett. We learnt about him in class and watched a few of his short films and I really found his style interesting. His short films definitely inspired me because of how interesting his style was. Experimental films is a genre that I enjoy a lot and I feel he created inspiring pieces.
